Unveiling Front Arena 4.2

Investing in the future of financial trading

Tim Dodd, Head of Product Management:
Front Arena, SunGard Capital Markets & Investment Banking
Tim Dodd, product manager at SunGard for Front Arena believes Front Arena 4.2 breaks new ground in several areas:

a new unified calculation engine heralds enhanced performance, better memory management boosts support for high volume FX trading and technological advances make for the most scalable and high performance architecture to-date.

We are now in a position to offer customers a major advance in functionality, usability and performance.

What’s more, we believe we’ve addressed the industry need for more calculations, to be able to price more complicated instruments faster and to handle larger volumes of more complex trades. With the definition of vanilla derivatives continuing to expand and products like equity basket options, Collatralised Debt Obligations (CDO’s) on the scene - leveraging today’s multi core hardware is essential. Pricing these instruments is tough and you need to be able to leverage hardware improvements through parallel processing.

When packaging the release, we followed 3 core principles; to maintain and enhance our code quality; to listen very closely to what our customers and the rest of the market were saying. And on top of everything else, we were out to increase performance. Of vital importance was engaging our customers in terms of reviewing our issues database with them and obtaining feedback from in-depth solution demonstrations. Our analysis was then validated by customers in each solution area before development began.

Highlights include:
  • New processing support for all major FX transaction types in an integrated cross-asset class application
  • Enhanced memory management
  • A new server-side quoting component giving highly competitive response times for re-quotes

  • Access to Front Arena business logic in Excel
